A married woman, Imolita, has narrated before the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, how she was raped by a security guard at a school where she worked as a nurse. According to the 35-year-old woman, she was on night duty when the suspect, Emmanuel Ibuchi Emmanuel, raped her. Following the reports of resignations by many officers and men amid the security challenges facing the country, the Nigerian Army has said it will no longer tolerate loss of interest in military service or lack of promotion as the basis for discharge. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen General Farouk Yahaya, in a letter addressed to various departments, formations of the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence, said service personnel leaving the service at will did not augur well for the Army. In the letter dated December 23, 2022, signed by Brig. Gen. Oladapo Oyelade, the COAS argued that officers leaving the Army must advance cogent reasons, stressing that loss of interest in military service would no longer be accepted. Though he acknowledged that military service was voluntary in Nigeria, the army chief noted that opting out without serving the length of years prescribed in the military was inimical to the service considering the resources and efforts that had been put into training...

The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (NSPM) has assured Nigerians that the new Naira notes in circulation are of the highest quality as the old notes but pointed out that the new notes leave traces of an Intaglio ink when rubbed on plain white surfaces. Intaglio ink is part of the components used in the minting of the notes. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered Deposit Money Banks not to pay customers making over-the-counter withdrawals of new naira notes again. Instead, the apex bank directed the banks to load their Automated Teller Machines with only new notes to ensure that the currency circulates across the nation ahead of the January 31, 2023 deadline when the old notes will no longer be legal tender. Saturday PUNCH gathered that the apex bank issued the directive to the banks on Wednesday and ordered that the implementation must begin immediately. However, as of Friday, the banks had not been able to comply with the directive as they complained of inadequate supply of the new notes, prompting them to load their ATMs with the old notes. The police in Lagos state have arrested one Kingsley Enageghe, the director of a hotel located in the Surulere axis of the state for allegedly firing gunshots at a guest in the hotel and also one of his staff, over the payment for a room in the hotel on Thursday, January 5.
