CBN Governor Emefiele Pleads Not Guilty to Filed Charges

In a recent court appearance, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges brought against him.

Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has pleaded not guilty to the two counts of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition filed against him by the Department of State Services DSS.


Emefiele was arraigned before the vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, at the Federal High Court, Lagos state today July 25. He was brought into court six weeks after he was arrested and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).


President Bola Tinubu had suspended Emefiele as the apex bank chief on June 9, 2023. 


A day after his suspension, the DSS confirmed that the embattled, suspended CBN chief was in its custody.
