The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour-curfew on Sabon Garin Nassarawa – Tirkaniya area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in the state, Samuel Aruwan, the decision was reached following a breakdown of law and order which led to the killing of two citizens in an incident of urban gang violence.
He said, “the Kaduna state government hereby announces the immediate imposition of 24-hour curfew on Sabon Garin Nassarawa-Tirkaniya area of Chikun LGA.
“This decision was reached following a breakdown of law and order which led to the killing of two citizens in an incident of urban gang violence.
“Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew in the said location, to restore order as investigations proceed. Citizens are therefore urged to strictly observe the curfew in this location, which takes effect immediately.
“Further updates will be communicated accordingly.”
Meanwhile, Tragedy struck on Sunday when a yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed oganienugu community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State and killed several villagers.
It was gathered that the hoodlums entered the village in the middle of the night on Sunday and started shoot sporadically and indiscriminately.
Our Correspondent also gathered that the ward Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Hon James Adah, was among those shot dead.
While reacting to the development, the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, called for calm over the attack.
He described the attack as “vile and satanic attack and a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Oganenigu who have enjoyed relative peace and security.”
Bello added that his administration will continue to phase out crisis entrepreneurs from the state and ensure that those involved shall be brought to book under the laws.
He said that the attacks was shocking, adding that “government will never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in its resolves to rid the state of criminals.”
He commiserates with the people in Oganenigu, particularly the family of the slain Oganenigu APC ward chairman, Hon James Adah and others affected by the “ugly and unfortunate attack” while urging the people to remain calm.
He, however, advised the people not to take laws into their hands as security agencies have been swiftly mobilised and deployed to the troubled areas to restore normalcy.
