Tems Breaks Silence After Winning A Grammy Award

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi aka Tems has finally reacted to her 2023 Grammy win.

According to the singer, this is just the beginning.

The singer won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category on Sunday night for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by American rapper, Future featuring Drake.

Speaking in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Tems recalled how she would always listen to several prominent artistes who she now works with.

She said: “It is incredible, I get to work with people that five years ago were on my playlist. I was jamming to them and now I am working with them, it is such a pleasure and I feel like this is just the beginning.

“The song, with U was taken from my record, Higher, they reached out to me and they told me they would use it as a sample and I felt it was amazing. I thought the song was interesting and amazing the way it got together.”

Meanwhile, Ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki has congratulated Temilade Openiyi aka Tems for her big win at the recently concluded Grammys.

The former Senate president, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Monday, wrote; ”Congratulations to the trailblazing Tems @temsbaby for making history as the first female Nigerian artist to receive a Grammy Award.”

”Honored in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for her amazing contribution to “Wait for U” ft. Future & Drake. Nigeria is proud of your success.”

Recall that Tems had won the 2023 Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance category for her role in the 2022 hit song by Future, featuring Drake’s Wait for U’.

The 65th annual Grammy award was held on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, U.S.
