An 18-year-old Tanzanian national, Kaftah Queen has been sentenced to three years in jail for assualting a 15-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate at Kira Court in Kampala, Uganda, Ms Roseline Nsenge sentenced the teen after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated torture.
The student at Trinity College Nabweru and a group of other girls still at large, beat up a 15-year-old girl, Nicole, slapping, kicking and dragging her on the floor in a house.
While sentencing her on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the judge noted that although Kaftah has shown remorse, the court has a duty to teach the public that such actions are not allowed in the society.
“I hereby sentence Kaftah Queen to three years in prison. The punishment should deter other children from getting involved in such acts,” she ruled.
Prosecution led by Mr Edward Tweheyo states that Kaftah and others still at large on January 8, at Nsasa in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, inflicted injuries on a female juvenile aged 15, accusing her of being in love with Kaftah’s boyfriend identified as Derrick Lwanga.
She was arrested a few days after a video recording, which showed them torturing the teenage girl, went viral on social media.
She has been on remand at Luzira prison since January 17, 2023.
In other news, A 78-year-old man in Bumula Constituency, Bungoma County, Kenya, is battling injuries on his private parts after it was allegedly bitten off by his daughter-in-law following an altercation.
Vincent Barasa is said to have allegedly been attacked by Evelyn Okello, his son’s second wife, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, as he attempted to resolve a physical fight between the woman and her friend at their home in Kimaeti sub-county.
Speaking to Citizen TV Kenya on Tuesday January 31, Barasa said he was having his meal at around 4pm when he heard a commotion in his son Godfrey Wekesa’s house. One of his grandchildren informed him that his daughter-in-law was fighting with another lady from a nearby market.
He immediately rushed to the scene in an attempt to resolve the altercation but was met with objection and decided to turn back without further effort.
No sooner had he turned back, than Evelyn followed him and hit him with a stone. He fell unconscious and the lady sat on him biting his chest. Attempts by the old man to push her away turned futile as she moved back and bit his private parts.
”As I was going back, it seems the lady was angry so she threw a stone at me and struck the backside of my head. She then proceeded to bite my manhood.” he explained.
Following the incident, angry residents who arrived at the scene gave the lady and her husband a thorough beating before taking the elderly man for treatment.
Wekesa said his wife is prone to violence and has often allegedly even threatened to kill him and his daughter.
Meanwhile, police are in hot pursuit of the suspect who has since gone into hiding.
