A Nigerian businessman, Darlington Onyelike, has advised women not to let social media “deceive” them into believing that there is equality in marriage.

Onyelike, who stated this in a post on Tuesday, January 31, also told married women that their husbands are not their friends but their lord.
“There is no equality in marriage, stop confusing yourself, there are no two heads in a home, just one and that is your husband. Your husband is the head of the family just like God is the head of the church,” he stated.
“Your Husband is not your friend, he is your Lord ( 1 Peter 3:6). Majority of those that claimed to have married their friend have divorced. And there is no way your husband can give you 24hours attention, won’t he go to work and make money for the family? Does that mean he Will stay with you from morning till night? It’s not possible, let’s stop deceiving ourselves on social media. Even a jobless man can never give a woman 24hours attention.” he added

In other news, a South African woman was allegedly killed by her husband in South Africa a day after she withdrew a domestic violence case against him.

The husband, 38, called the police on Saturday morning, claiming he couldn’t find his wife but was surprised to find her dead in the pit toilet in their yard.
The corpse of the 33-year-old woman, Lindelani Nengovhela, was found in a water-filled pit toilet in their residence at Mangodi Ha Sundou, Limpopo, on Saturday, January 28.
He was released on bail and scheduled to appear in court next week, but on Friday, January 27, Lindelani asked the court to dismiss the case.
According to a Limpopo police spokesperson, the husband, 38, called the police on Saturday morning, claiming he couldn’t find his wife but was surprised to find her dead in the pit toilet in their yard.
“A preliminary probe conducted by the police at the scene led to the arrest of the suspect on a charge of murder,” Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said.
Speaking on the incident, Limpopo provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, urged people in turbulent relationships not to resort to domestic violence
“This is yet another incident of gender-based violence and femicide perpetrated against a vulnerable member of society. The woman obviously trusted her husband would not again physically torment her, but she is now no more. We urge community members having domestic challenges to seek help and desist from resorting to violence,” she said.
